Planning staff announced a public "community mingle" on Aug. 19 to gather resident input on ADA access and nonmotorized transportation improvements in La Conner.
Staff planner Asia Iles said the event will use large printed town maps and ask residents to mark places where pedestrian or nonmotorized access should be improved. Iles said the meeting will be held in person downstairs at the usual 6 p.m. time and that a Zoom option will be provided for accessibility.
Iles told the commission that community‑identified fixes will be integrated into the town's six‑year transportation improvement program and that, realistically, implementation could take two to three years as items enter the budgeting cycle. The event flyers will be posted around town, on the town website and on kiosks.
Commissioners expressed hope for a strong turnout and discussed using the event to prioritize short‑term fixes and longer range projects. No formal action or budget appropriation was taken during the meeting; staff said this is the first outreach event on this topic.
