Feed the Need campaign reports 284,000 pounds of food donated in 2024-25; Corrections and Wastewater recognized

Tony Baron, director of the countyDepartment of Facilities and chair of the Feed the Need campaign, told the Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 7 that Johnson County employees donated more than 284,000 pounds of food to area pantries during the latest campaign year.
Why it matters: The Feed the Need campaign is one of three charities within the Johnson County Charitable Foundation; it supports 10 area food pantries that serve eligible Johnson County residents.
Baron said the 284,000 pounds of food distributed this year was "64,000 pounds better than last year," and that the campaign combines food and financial donations raised by county employees through events including food drives, bake sales and golf tournaments.
Baron announced departmental awards for this year's campaign: the chairman's award for most donations went to Corrections; the commissioner's award for most donations per employee also went to Corrections; and the Rick Beckwith Cup for most improved from the previous year went to Wastewater. "Thank you Johnson County employees and commissioners for participating in this year's campaign," Baron said.
Chair Mike Kelly thanked Baron and congratulated the winners.
