The Board of Education approved a purchase of wrestling mats for the middle school from 2022 bond funds, authorizing up to $27,000 for Velcro-style competition and practice mats. Mike, who presented the request, said the middle school has not previously had a competition mat and the new purchase will allow hosted meets at the middle school and provide practice space without repeatedly transporting mats from the high school.

Board members asked whether the mats would interfere with other winter indoor rentals. Staff replied the selected Velcro-style mats are designed for easier rolling and movement so the space can be reconfigured for basketball and other uses as needed. The motion to approve the purchase passed 5-0.

Staff indicated the intent is for the mats to increase program capacity for middle-school wrestling and reduce repeated equipment transport; the board authorized the expenditure from the 2022 bond fund as a capital purchase.
