The Holmdel Township Board of Education approved an employment contract extension for Superintendent Dr. Jay Scott Cascone after a public hearing and roll‑call vote at the meeting. The board voted to rescind the prior contract and approve a new contract effective 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2029 pursuant to NJSA 18A:11‑11.
The public hearing preceding the vote featured multiple speakers who described Cascone’s frequent attendance at student events and his visibility across the district. "I just want to commend you, Dr. Cascone, for everything you've done for the students," said Marissa De Zago, who gave her address for the record. Student speaker Lucian Gaggitorian described specific examples of Cascone attending a jazz festival and project graduation, saying, "he cares a lot." Parent speakers Carrie Tedisco and Connie Sadowa and district staff and former union leader Denise King also offered praise for Cascone’s responsiveness and presence at events.
Board members framed the extension as a vote for stability and continuity. During board discussion several members said Cascone brought the district stability after a period of turnover and praised his communication and community engagement. One board member noted the board acted earlier than required to keep the superintendent, calling the extension "a whole year earlier than we needed to" because the board wanted to make sure he remained in the district.
Following the public comments and board discussion, the board moved and seconded the resolution to rescind the prior employment contract and approve the new contract for the stated period. The motion passed on a roll‑call vote; all voting members present voted to approve the contract extension.
Dr. Cascone addressed the board and community after the vote, saying he was "humbled" by the board’s confidence and called the extension "one of the greatest achievements of my career." He added that his priority is creating conditions that enable administrators, faculty and staff "to be at their best."
The extension does not include details about salary or other contract terms in the public portion of the meeting record read aloud; the board cited NJSA 18A:11‑11 when moving the resolution. The board closed the public hearing and proceeded to other agenda items, including ethics training and a series of routine action items.
Votes on the contract and related procedural motions occurred by roll call during the regular meeting; the board read the resolution aloud at the meeting and then entered the vote.
