Board discusses BoardDocs rollout, live agenda amendments and recommended abstentions

At the Jan. 21 workshop the West Milford School District staff described changes to how agendas will appear once the district finishes rolling out BoardDocs. Superintendent Dr. Kitchen said the platform will show live amendments so board members can see changes made after an agenda posting and that a new “hand-carries” section will flag items added after publication. Dr. Kitchen told the board, “what you can expect is the agenda as presented to you will always be accurate because any changes will be in there live before you're voting.” The administration also plans to include recommended abstentions for routinely conflicted items so the board can vote items in a block while still documenting expected recusals. The staff explained that BoardDocs’ expanded functionality will allow the district to segregate committee-level documents and confidential executive items, reducing the need to move materials outside the platform. The district said the additional BoardDocs features will let administrators limit access to some materials while keeping everything in one system. Board members discussed how recommended abstention markers would work in practice and how committee access might be adjusted. The board took no purchasing or funding action at the workshop; personnel and operations motions related to agenda items were later moved and approved during the meeting’s business session. Administrators said the BoardDocs enhancements should make the agenda easier to follow on meeting nights and reduce repetitive roll-call abstentions for routine conflicts.
