The Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 12 to authorize a municipal order for a $120,000 contract with Barkley Regional Airport to support general aviation and air‑carrier services.
City staff and commissioners explained the payment is an annual contribution included in the city budget for several years to help offset airport operating shortfalls — salaries and operating expenses not covered by federal grants or other revenues. Staff said the county similarly contributes and that the funds are typically paid in installments.
Commissioners asked whether the funds were a recurring budget item; staff confirmed the $120,000 contribution has been made in recent budgets and that the airport frequently uses federal grants for capital projects but relies on local contributions for operations.
The municipal order passed on a roll call vote with all members present voting aye.
