Paducah commission directs RFP for new parks maintenance building; design funding in place

The Paducah Board of Commissioners on June 24 authorized the city manager to initiate a request for proposals for design and construction administration of a new maintenance building for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Parks staff told the commission that the department spent the previous year seeking existing property or buildings to renovate but found none that met their needs. The planned building would house the department’s maintenance team and equipment; Parks staff said about 18 maintenance employees would ultimately move to the new facility and that the project requires roughly 10,000 square feet of under-roof storage for mowers, tractors and other large equipment.
“We are putting out an RFP for design services to construct a building for our maintenance team and our equipment,” Parks staff said. Staff also told commissioners the city has allocated money in the current budget for the project’s design phase.
Commissioners asked whether the city would use existing city property; Parks staff said Noble Park is a leading candidate but no final site decision has been made. The motion to initiate the RFP passed on a roll-call vote with all present voting aye.
The RFP will seek a professional design team and construction-administration services; staff said a design contract will be brought back to the commission for later approval.
