Flemington-Raritan reports 3,325 students as enrollment rises over five years

The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District reported enrollment of 3,325 students as of the meeting, up from 3,241 at the same time last year and 3,007 five years ago, the superintendent said.

The increase matters for staffing and budgeting as kindergarten registration is currently under way, the superintendent said. School-by-school figures presented at the meeting showed a range in elementary enrollments and larger numbers at the district’s middle and intermediate levels.

According to figures read at the meeting, J.P. Case Middle School had about 730 students; Reading‑Fleming Intermediate School had about 721; Copper Hill Elementary had about 579; Francis A. Desmares Elementary about 426; Robert Hunter Elementary about 411; and Barley Sheaf Elementary about 377. The superintendent said month-to-month enrollment tends not to fluctuate much, typically changing by only a few students.

District officials said they are monitoring enrollment closely because incoming kindergarten registration affects staffing and classroom assignments. No new staffing actions tied directly to the enrollment numbers were announced at the meeting.

The superintendent reiterated that kindergarten registration is ongoing and asked families to complete registration to help the district finalize class assignments for the fall.
