Boyle County approves application for $1.25 million HUD CDBG to upgrade Gun Range Road water lines

Danville, Ky. — Boyle County Fiscal Court on Aug. 12 approved a resolution authorizing the county judge executive to apply for $1,250,000 in HUD Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for a project titled “Boyle County Water Improvements Project CDBG,” officials said.
The resolution, read aloud to the court during the meeting, states that the county recognizes chronic low water pressure issues in parts of Boyle County and that the proposed project would address deficiencies with upgrades and replacements to the existing water system.
Magistrate Jerry (presenter) described the project area as running down Gun Range Road and said the proposed work would include upsizing existing lines from 6‑inch to 12‑inch mains to improve pressure and fire protection for residents in neighborhoods including Old Bridge and Wells Landing. “That will help the residents in that area,” Magistrate Collins said during the discussion. He added that the new 12‑inch line would be tied into an existing 12‑inch main to increase supply to the area.
Why it matters: court documents say chronic low water pressure in the project area poses risks to public health and fire protection. If awarded, the federal CDBG funds would pay for water main upgrades and would require additional project planning, environmental review and procurement before construction.
The court approved the resolution and authorized the judge executive to sign all necessary documents to submit the application. Magistrate Cohen made the motion to approve; Magistrate Harmon seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
County staff said the resolution only authorizes submission of the application; award of funds by HUD, design, permitting and construction would follow separate approvals and standard procurement processes.
