Superintendent Ed Grandy reported Arthur L. Johnson High School’s results on the state-required New Jersey graduation proficiency assessment, saying the school posted a 97.1% rate in English language arts compared with 80.7% statewide, and a 68.6% rate in mathematics compared with 58% statewide. Grandy also noted the district approved multiple AP summer institutes and Orton-Gillingham training for elementary literacy as part of professional development. He said a college application summer institute began the same day, taught by Joy Donaldson and high school counselor Molly Kucuk. Grandy thanked the Valley Road School PTA for donating exterior signage and said the district will flip two calendar days for the referendum: Sept. 16 will be a full closure; Feb. 13 will be an early dismissal. He closed by reiterating the board’s immediate action to address preschool before/aftercare cost differences. The board received the superintendent’s report and moved to committee reports and public comment.
