Representative Sharon Ray presented sponsor testimony to the Senate Transportation Committee for House Bill 56, which would designate a portion of State Route 421 adjacent to the Amheuser family farm as the Corporal David James Amheuser Memorial Highway.
"This legislation will honor Corporal David James Amheuser by designating a portion of State Route 421 that runs adjacent to the Amheuser family farm as the Corporal David James Amheuser Memorial Highway," Representative Sharon Ray said during her first hearing. Ray said Corporal Amheuser was killed at age 19 on Aug. 29, 1970, while serving a second tour in Vietnam and listed his decorations, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor.
Ray told the committee the memorial would help keep Amheuser's legacy alive in the community and bring comfort to his family. Committee members observed that the signage will be adjacent to the family farm; no formal committee vote was taken at this hearing.
