The board approved a district-wide cardiac emergency response plan July 15 designed to comply with statewide standards that the meeting described as directed by state legislators and a state education department.
A presenter identified in the packet as Sharon said the district developed its plan to conform to the statewide guidance and reviewed exemplars from other organizations. The plan provides a template for each school building to identify members of a cardiac emergency response team, to assign staff with relevant skills (CPR, AED use) and to train district administrative teams. Sharon said building crisis-planning teams — typically led by the building operator or principal — will identify individuals by skill set and assign a nurse as a consistent team member where applicable.
Sharon told the board the district will collect building-level plans and submit them by the July 31 deadline. The board approved the USD 305 cardiac emergency response plan by a 7-0 vote.
During discussion a board member asked whether team members are volunteers; Sharon explained buildings look for staff with needed skills and that the nurse is a constant on the plan.
The plan will be implemented at the building level with district training and building-level assignments and documentation for submission to the district.
