After returning from a closed executive session on June 26, the Auburn-Washburn USD 437 Board of Education approved two personnel actions that had been discussed in private.
The board, which went into executive session under the exceptions permitted by the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) for matters affecting a student, non-elected personnel and employer negotiations, unanimously approved a request to release a teacher from his contract. "I move that the board of education approves the request for the teacher to be released from his contract as discussed in executive session," Jackie (board member) said; the motion passed 5-0.
The board also approved an adjustment to an employee's title and salary that had been discussed in the executive session. "I move that the Board of Education approves the request for the adjustment of title and salary for the employee as discussed in executive session," a board member moved; the motion passed 5-0.
The board identified the legal basis for the executive session on the record as exceptions related to students, personnel and employer negotiations under KOMA. No further details about the individuals involved or the substance of the personnel changes were disclosed in open session. Both motions were recorded as passing 5-0.
