The Auburn-Washburn USD 437 Board of Education on June 26 approved instructional materials, a new elective course, personnel compensation changes, and insurance renewals in a series of unanimous votes.
The board approved $5,345.62 for instructional materials for Forensic Science II (item 7.02). "I move the Board of Education to approve the presented instructional materials in the amount of $5,345.62," an unnamed board member moved; the motion passed 5-0.
The board also approved a middle-school peer mentor elective (item 7.03) and the 2025-26 elementary student handbook (item 7.04). "I move the Board of Education approves the 2025-2026 elementary student handbook as presented," a board member said; the motion carried 5-0.
Under item 7.05 the board approved property and casualty insurance and workers' compensation renewals for the 2025-26 year; the board approved the renewals by a 5-0 vote.
On compensation (item 7.06) the board approved a new starting wage for bus drivers at $17.00 per hour with additional pay for relevant experience, and it maintained the current starting wage for paraeducators at $13.53 per hour while implementing a new experience-based pay ladder. A board member moved the measure; the motion passed 5-0.
Each item was handled as an action item with recorded 5-0 approval. The approvals affect classroom materials, student programming, district handbooks, insurance coverage for district operations, and frontline staff pay scales. The board recorded no public comment on these items at the meeting.
