Board approves changes to retired educators handbook to align with negotiated staff agreements

The Salina USD 305 Board of Education approved revisions to the 2025–26 retired certified teachers handbook at the July 15 meeting to align retired-educator provisions with changes negotiated for other staff groups.
Erin Wright, introduced in the packet as the district’s Executive Director of Human Resources and Legal Services, told the board the handbook changes reflect negotiated adjustments made this year for certified staff. Wright said the substantive changes include reducing the contract year from 188 days to 182 days and changing the duty day from seven and three-quarter hours to eight hours. The handbook also clarifies conversion of PTO days to hours for record-keeping, and it adds parental leave and bereavement leave provisions for the retired educators group that were not previously included.
Wright said the handbook also reiterates district and association positions regarding student and staff safety, updates language and formatting, and provides guidance on compensation for student events that fall outside the duty day when those events are not part of the primary contract.
A board member moved to approve the changes; the motion was seconded and passed by a 7-0 vote.
