Dodge City — The USD 443 Board of Education approved a group of organizational appointments, district policies, fees and resolutions at its July 14 meeting by a single board motion and vote.
Appointments and administrative designations approved include: continuing the associate superintendent of business and operations as board clerk; the district comptroller as board treasurer; Clayton Curbs as school attorney; the director of public information as Freedom of Information (FOIA) officer; and named staff as compliance officers for federal laws cited in the agenda. The board also designated Sunflower Bank as a depository for district funds and the Dodge City Daily Globe as the district’s official newspaper.
The board adopted the 2025–26 1,116‑hour academic calendar in lieu of daily attendance requirements, approved student meal prices for the 2025–26 school year and set substitute teacher rates ($130/day for up to 10 continuous days, $155/day for days 11–40, and $210/day for over 41 continuous days in the same position). The agenda also included adoption or renewal of multiple resolutions (by number) related to meeting dates, rescinding prior policy actions, waiving certain fixed‑asset accounting requirements, destruction of records and recycling retired IT equipment; the board approved the block as presented (motion passed 6-0).
Patrick Scheck drew attention to a live‑streaming note added to the meeting‑dates schedule: evening regular meetings will be live‑streamed via YouTube with recordings typically posted the following day and retained publicly for five working days; noon, special and committee meetings will not be streamed.
Why it matters: these routine organizational approvals set who is authorized to act for the board, set operational fees and schedules for the coming school year, and establish administrative policies that guide district transparency and records handling.
Next steps: staff will implement the calendar, fee schedules and appointments; live‑stream procedures will be followed per the updated guidance in the meeting‑date schedule.
