Board gets summer construction update; South addition timeline under close watch

District facilities staff provided the Auburn-Washburn Board of Education an extensive summer construction and design update on June 11, reporting work across multiple elementary and middle school sites and flagging schedule risk for a South addition project.
Tucker Pedicord, director of facilities (presenting staff), said the Washington North multipurpose building pad is complete and the WRMS library renovation is finished; other renovations are underway at WRMS, Jay Shidler, Indian Hills, Farley, Pauline South, Auburn and Wanamaker. Pedicord said the South addition is more complex due to slab cutting, shoring and structural beam installation required to open interior walls; that project was already on a tight timeline and experienced significant weather-related delays earlier in the year.
Pedicord said the district is applying “a high level of focus and pressure” to keep the South addition and related renovations moving and intends to have base bond projects wrapped by August 2026. He told the board that principals and teacher teams participated in design decisions and that the schematic design phase remains on budget (estimated $8–9 million across the three prioritized designs). The board said it will receive brief progress updates from the facilities committee over the summer.
