Parents raise concerns about graduation ticketing, coach pay schedule and student snacks

Three members of the public addressed the board July 15 with focused requests about operational matters.

What speakers asked: A parent urged the district to revisit graduation ticket limits so families can bring more relatives to milestone events and to ensure equitable access for immigrant and mixed‑status families; another parent requested clearer, consistent communication and policy alignment across buildings on graduation access. A parent of high‑school athletes raised concerns about the way some coaches are paid (coaches reported being paid "after the season" rather than on a regular payroll schedule) and asked the district to convene a districtwide meeting to clarify payroll timing for coaches. That same parent requested district assistance in identifying vendors or grant procedures to secure snacks and water for student athletes after practices and games.

Board response: Trustees thanked speakers and asked staff to follow up. Superintendent Dr. Anna Stubblefield and staff committed to have a staff member contact speakers after the meeting to discuss next steps and to identify appropriate procurement or community partners to address snacks and payroll questions.

Why it matters: Graduation access affects family participation in public ceremonies; pay timing and after‑practice nutrition affect staff retention and student well‑being. Speakers framed their remarks as appeals for clearer policy and practical supports.
