The Junction City Commission approved a special permit request from Main Street to access a fire hydrant at the intersection of Tenth and Franklin Streets for the Main Street Market’s Aqua Adventures event on August 9. Main Street representative Terry Butler described recreational activities planned for the market and said the hydrant location across from the market on Tenth Street would limit traffic conflicts compared with the hydrant on Washington.
Butler said the market is a regular Saturday event and that the Aqua Adventures theme will include a dunk tank, water slide and water‑balloon activities open to the public. The commission asked staff whether pressure and other operational details were adequate; public works staff indicated the hydrant would provide adequate pressure and the event would require temporary road closure for hose protection. The commission approved the request by voice vote and encouraged community participation.
Terry Butler invited residents to attend the market and noted subsequent themed Saturdays in September will include a golden‑oldies and square‑dancing event.
The event organizers will coordinate hydrant use and road closure logistics with city staff and public‑safety personnel ahead of the August 9 market.
