PSC sets hearing on lighting waiver for 9 turbines at Badger Wind project

The North Dakota Public Service Commission issued a notice of hearing May 19 in case PUD-24-87 to consider Badger Wind LLC’s request for a waiver from the requirement to install an aircraft detection lighting system (ADLS) on nine of 92 turbines proposed for the Badger Wind project in Logan and McIntosh counties.
Badger Wind filed the waiver request April 16, 2025. The Federal Aviation Administration denied use of an ADLS for the nine turbines and instead requires synchronized red obstruction lighting. The commission said the hearing will consider whether a waiver of the ADLS requirement should be granted based on technical or economic feasibility.
The commission scheduled the hearing for Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. Central time in the commission hearing room on the 12th floor of the State Capitol. The notice of hearing was issued by motion, seconded, and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
