Committee reviews COGEL conference options, registration deadlines and lodging changes

Committee Administrator Kevin Reeve briefed members on the Council on Governmental Ethics Law (COGEL) conference during the committee’s July 25 teleconference, noting the event is scheduled Dec. 7–10 and that early-registration deadlines affect cost and lodging.
Reeve said the conference organizers currently show only “concurrent breakout sessions” on the agenda and advised members to wait for finalized session topics before deciding to register. He explained a recent change: lodging reservations are released only after a conference registration is completed to limit use of room blocks by non-attendees.
On registration fees, Reeve said there is an early-registration deadline of Aug. 1 at which rate is $600; a later rate after Oct. 1 is approximately $700; and the on-site rate is $800. He also noted the conference runs from noon Sunday through noon Wednesday (with travel on Saturday) and that lodging has previously been spread across multiple hotels, a situation the organizers say they have addressed.
Reeve and committee members discussed membership registration and whether the committee or individual elected officials should pay. Reeve said he will continue to monitor the conference agenda and send updates to committee members as topics are posted.
