Committee backs bill to name road for Deputy Daniel Ken after sponsor testimony

Sponsor testimony said Deputy Daniel Ken, 34, died after being struck by a vehicle while transporting an inmate on Dec. 15, 2022, and that he served with multiple local law enforcement agencies before joining the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department. The sponsor described Ken as “kind, compassionate” and noted he left a wife and two children.
Committee members responded with appreciation for Ken’s service. Vice Chair Daniels moved that the bill be favorably reported; the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
The committee reported the bill out and reminded members the roll would be left open for late signatures; the measure will move forward to the next stage in the House process.
