Committee unanimously backs bill to name section of SR 241 for Capt. Joshua Michael McCliman

The Ohio House Transportation Committee on June 10 voted unanimously to favorably report House Bill 259, which would designate a portion of State Route 241 (Maslin Road) in Summit County as Captain Joshua Michael McCliman Memorial Highway.
Sponsor testimony described McCliman as a registered nurse who commissioned into the U.S. Army in 2003, served in the 806th Combat Support Hospital and worked in trauma units and ICU operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The sponsor said McCliman is featured in the HBO documentary Baghdad ER and that he was killed by a sniper on April 22 while deployed to Afghanistan; the testimony said he was 30 years old at the time.
The committee heard a written statement from McCliman’s daughter, who said, in part, “I am honored to be the daughter of a man who selflessly bled and died for my tomorrow.” The sponsor urged the committee to support the bill so McCliman’s legacy would be preserved for future generations.
Representative McLean moved that the bill be favorably reported and recommended for passage; the motion passed by unanimous roll call. The committee left the roll open until 5 p.m. for members not present.
The measure was reported out of committee and will proceed to further consideration by the full House.
