The city manager told the commission the request-for-qualifications period for the Wells Built hotel redevelopment has closed with four responses. A ranking committee is vetting submissions and the city will notify which firms are prequalified on Friday.
“Ranking committee is vetting those firms now and notifications will be going out this Friday as to which firms are prequalified to advance in the process,” the city manager said.
Several commissioners praised the progress on downtown redevelopment and said they look forward to the RFQ results. Commissioner Thompson said he was eager to see the proposals and suggested the right developer — not necessarily the most numerous — was what the city needed. Commissioners also noted the need for downtown property owners to activate empty buildings as the hotel project moves forward.
No selection was announced at the meeting; the city’s next steps are vetting by the ranking committee and notifications to firms.
