On behalf of the Lake Wales Charter Schools Board of Trustees, board representative Anderson Blair introduced Julie Conrad Peters as the school system's new superintendent.
“I'm excited to have... Miss Julie Conrad Peters, our new superintendent,” Anderson Blair said during the meeting. Peters told the commission she had been on the job seven days and had already met staff, trustees and families. “We really want our families to choose Lake Wales Charter School System. And we do that by being excellent when it comes to safety, academics, and engagement,” Peters said.
Peters emphasized community engagement and invited city leaders and residents to reach out. During the commission comments, Commissioner Thompson asked whether the school speed cameras were operational; Peters said she did not know and offered to find out. Commissioners praised the school board's work and linked education to local economic development, with one commissioner saying, “Literacy equals economic development.”
The introduction was a non-action item: the board sought the commission's welcome and an opportunity for city leaders to collaborate with the charter system.
