Commissioner Christy Myers told the Morris County Board of County Commissioners on July 23 that the county’s Navigating Hope program helped prevent the eviction of an elderly mother and her adult son with epilepsy by assisting with back rent and coordinating services, allowing the family to remain in their home.
“My Navigating Hope in partnership with Family Promise helped to resolve the client situation, which allowed them to remain in their home,” Myers said. She described a second case in which Navigating Hope staff responded to a hospitalized woman at risk of premature labor who had no household goods or local support; staff secured donations including diapers, formula, baby clothes, a baby rocker, kitchen utensils and blankets.
Why it matters: Commissioners said the work of Navigating Hope and partner organizations prevents homelessness and addresses urgent needs for at‑risk residents.
Myers also reported attending a ribbon cutting for the new Susan O’Donnell Memorial Head Start headquarters and praised county Head Start staff and partners. She described the facility as a new centralized headquarters and thanked staff and volunteers involved in the project.
Discussion only: Remarks were informational; no funding votes or program changes were made at the session.
Ending: Commissioners commended Navigating Hope staff and Head Start partners and said they would continue to highlight emergency assistance programs in future reports.
