Eversource work on Main Street to run 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; town warns of lane closures and no‑parking signs

Town Manager (name not specified) said the contractor will start test work immediately and hopes the main project will start the Tuesday after Memorial Day. “They have to be off the road at 04:00,” the town manager said. When work requires access to the median, crews will temporarily close two lanes and divert traffic onto the opposing side; parking restrictions will be posted the night before and signs will note the no‑parking enforcement window (6 a.m.–4 p.m.).
Staff explained that while only about an 80‑foot section of pavement may be excavated at a time, equipment and staging will require a 150‑foot working zone; crews will complete one section before moving to the next. The town will post updates on its website and social media and will forward email addresses to Eversource for direct project updates to residents who sign up.
Selectmen asked about night work; the town manager said Connecticut DOT denied a request to permit overnight operations because local businesses would lose evening parking. The town manager also said DOT foremen will monitor Eversource’s work daily and that extended hours past 4 p.m. would be allowed only for emergencies if DOT approves.
The town urged residents and downtown businesses to monitor posted signs and encouraged anyone who wants direct Eversource emails to contact the town manager’s office to be added to the update list.
