The Pampa City Commission approved the first reading of Resolution R25-023, a proposal from the Pampa Economic Development Corporation to provide a $250,000 grant to the city for purchase of heavy equipment to remove overgrown vegetation, demolish unsafe or abandoned structures and assist with neighborhood beautification. Ryan Bradley, executive director of the PEDC, said the equipment list includes a skid steer, multiple attachments and a grapple trailer and that the PEDC board unanimously approved the project after a public hearing in which no public comments were submitted.
Why it matters: The PEDC and city framed the purchase as a tool for blight remediation and public-safety improvements that could speed property cleanups and support future economic development by improving neighborhood appearance. Bradley said the equipment will be dedicated to community cleanup work and that the EDC view the purchase as a way to "restore pride in our neighborhoods and improve public safety."
Action and next steps: The commission approved the first reading of the resolution; the item requires final reading per the resolution process before funds are disbursed. Staff noted the PEDC held a public hearing on July 17 and that no public comments were filed. The commission did not amend the item at first reading.
Ending: With the first reading approved, staff and the PEDC will proceed toward finalizing the grant and purchase details for subsequent commission action.
