Goldendale council reviews crosswalk, striping schedule and ongoing Broadway parking questions

At the Goldendale City Council regular meeting, City Administrator Sandy Wells told council members the city will begin crosswalk painting this Wednesday and that street striping is scheduled to start Aug. 12. She said the Darling Street project is delayed by supply issues but is set to start next Monday.
The timing details were the most immediate operational updates. "We got the final reimbursement for the Aprilfield project, so that project is racking up," Wells said. She added that the city will paint crosswalks first, then move to curb painting, and that contractor striping work is scheduled to begin Aug. 12.
The council also returned to a previously raised parking and traffic issue on Broadway. Wells said the city is still coordinating with the state: "On Broadway. You have to talk to the state. I think we're waiting on them because their... agreement with us was leading curve to curve," she said. The council discussed whether the item should go to the traffic safety committee or remain with public works for follow-up. Councilmember Steve Johnston asked that Broadway parking issues be referred to the traffic safety committee: "I would respectfully request that we could refer... Broadway parking issues out to the traffic safety committee." Police Chief Mike Smith noted that the traffic safety committee includes the police chief and a council representative.
Council members and staff discussed local curb and stop-sign spacing referenced during the conversation: a council speaker noted curb clearance rules on the north side of Collins as "5 feet from the driveways" and that intersections and stop signs have separate clearance requirements. Those details will be confirmed with the city’s public works staff and the state as needed.
No ordinance change was adopted at the meeting; councilmembers requested additional information and agreed to hold a public works follow-up meeting and to brief the traffic safety committee. The city administrator and public works staff said they would continue communications with the state and provide an update at the next council meeting.
Less-critical operational notes: Rick Lending (airport) is scheduled to attend a future council meeting with an airport layout plan update, and the administrator said she will include the CPA’s second-quarter update on the next agenda.
