Board approves three street‑closing resolutions for August–September community events

The Board of Public Works and Safety on Aug. 4 approved several street‑closing resolutions for summer and fall community events.
A resolution filed by Sean Scudder on behalf of the Madison Police and Fire departments closes Vaughn Drive between the west side of West Street and the east side of Poplar Street from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, for National Night Out at Bicentennial Park. Chief Scudder and other staff said the date was moved to avoid conflicts with school open houses.
The board also approved Resolution 2025‑39B, a request from Britney Demery on behalf of the Madison Farmers Market to close parts of Broadway and adjacent sidewalks on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The closure covers the southbound lane of Broadway from the north side of Main Street to the south side of Third Street, sidewalks on the north side of Main Street from Main to Trinity Methodist Church, and 408 Broadway. Staff and the market manager said evening market experiments have attracted different crowds and that courthouse staff and others would receive event notices.
Finally, the board approved Resolution 2025‑41B, a request from Mike Perry on behalf of Eureka Lodge No. 30 to close Broadway between Fourth and Fifth streets for a Broadway school reunion and street dance on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Organizers said the event will include a DJ, food trucks and family activities and were reminded to submit a facility‑use form and coordinate trash and electrical needs with city staff.
Board members recorded the motions and approved the resolutions by voice vote. Staff said notices would be distributed to courthouse employees and other affected parties where applicable.
