Staff described the parcels as vacant lots roughly a half-mile south of downtown Hammond, across from a former fire station and near a Little Caesars location. The parcels are on the west side of Homan Avenue in a mixed residential-commercial corridor. Staff recommended conveying the properties from city ownership to the Hammond Redevelopment Commission (HRC) so HRC can pursue residential or mixed-use redevelopment.
A motion to approve the resolution was moved and seconded; a roll-call vote recorded five yes votes and the resolution passed. Staff did not present a developer, price or timeline for redevelopment at the meeting; the action accepts conveyance authority so HRC may proceed with planning and disposition as allowed under applicable city procedures.
Commissioners did not raise objections during the vote. Further action on redevelopment plans, solicitation for developers, or disposition instruments will occur in future meetings when staff returns recommendations.
