Council accepts health and enforcement grants: MOU with Will County clinic and tobacco/FOID enforcement funds approved

The council on Oct. 5 approved a memorandum of understanding and business associate agreement with the Will County Community Health Center to support a program in which fire personnel will make in‑home visits and related community health work. Council members described the program as “well needed.” Council also adopted resolutions authorizing acceptance of a Tobacco Enforcement Program grant to support underage tobacco and vaping enforcement and a FOID enforcement grant from the State of Illinois. Chief Evans emphasized that FOID revocations originate with the Illinois State Police and the city’s role is to assist by taking possession of firearms or other items when revocation actions are referred by state authorities. “It’s important to know the revocation comes from the Illinois State Police, not the city of Joliet,” the chief said. All three items were approved by roll call votes Oct. 5; council members described the measures as supportive of public health and public‑safety enforcement.
