Supervisors approve county capital repairs and criminal-justice grant funds

Cochise County supervisors on Aug. 5 approved several capital fund transfers and accepted criminal-justice grants during their regular meeting.
The board approved a $235,528.20 transfer from the County Capital Projects Fund contingency to replace the roof on Building A at 1415 West Melody Lane in Bisbee. Facilities staff described the roof as original and in need of replacement.
The board also approved $317,230.23 to replace four ductless mini-split systems and 19 gas-pack units at the juvenile detention center and adjacent county offices in Sierra Vista. Facilities staff said many HVAC units had exceeded a 20-year expected lifespan and replacements would be more energy-efficient.
On grants, the board approved acceptance of a Drug, Gang and Violent Crime Control grant (DC-26-021) from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission in the amount of $155,586.18 for the period 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2026 to support prosecutorial staff, and approved a Crime Victim Compensation grant (VC-26-002) for $141,014 to fund a mandated part-time victim compensation coordinator and victim services.
County staff said the DC grant has funded prosecutor positions for decades, and the victim services manager described the VC grant's use for both staffing and victim assistance. All motions passed by unanimous votes.
Ending: The board recorded the motions as approved 3-0; staff will implement the capital projects and administer the grants as usual.
