The Southwest Allen County Schools Board of School Trustees voted to accept an $8,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to purchase playground equipment for pre-kindergarten students and to accept a separate grant from the Rotary Club to refresh physical-education equipment at Whispering Meadows Elementary School.
Mrs. Kleber, presenting the PNC donation, said the funding comes from PNC's Grow Up Great initiative, which supports early learning from birth to age 5, and thanked Catherine Hill, PNC vice president for client and community relations, for help securing the grant. "This is a recommendation to accept an $8,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to support the purchases of playground equipment for our pre k students," Kleber said.
Kleber described Haverhill Elementary as lacking playground equipment designed for the district's youngest learners and said the grant will fund appropriately sized equipment for pre-K students. "Haverhill is one of the playgrounds that really was not designed for our youngest learners," she said.
On the Whispering Meadows donation, Kleber said the Anthony Wayne Rotary Club proactively reached out and provided funding to refresh and enhance physical-education equipment. The board moved and seconded acceptance of both donations, and each motion passed.
No additional conditions or funding-matching requirements were announced at the meeting; staff said they would use the funds to purchase equipment at the named schools.
