Pitt County says Whitehurst Station water main extension completed; 14 homes connected

A 1.9-mile extension of public water mains to the Whitehurst Station community on Staten Mill Road is complete, and 14 homes have transitioned from private wells to the public system, county staff and a resident told the Pitt County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 4.
Resident Josephine Butler, who said she lives at 4210 Staten Mill Road in Robersonville, told commissioners, "It is absolutely wonderful to have water service. Not having to purchase and haul water for domestic use is a real benefit." She thanked Pitt County government and Greenville Utilities Commission for financing and executing the project.
In the county manager's report, county staff said the project covered about 1.9 miles of water main extension along sections of NC 30 and Staten Mill Road near Whitehurst Station and was funded through Pitt County's American Rescue Plan Act allocation with a contribution from Greenville Utilities Commission. The manager's report said the project aimed to address ongoing water-quality concerns reported by several households.
The county report said the extension has provided residents "access to clean and reliable drinking water" and that county staff had received positive feedback from residents in the area. The report named specific county staff and Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC) employees and contractors who worked on the project.
No formal vote was required to acknowledge completion; the project status was reported during the public-address and manager-report portions of the meeting. County staff made copies of the full project documentation available on request.
Details said during the meeting indicate the project was funded by ARPA dollars from Pitt County and included a contribution from GUC; specific contract amounts and contractor invoices were not provided at the meeting.
