Moorhead economic development staff report: downtown projects, DG Fuels outreach and 'Sunset on the Riverfront' event

Economic development staff updated the Moorhead Economic Development Authority on downtown activity, business moves, sustainable aviation fuel outreach and an upcoming community event.

Derek (last name not provided), the city’s economic development staff member, said downtown activity continues with new tenants and infrastructure work: “We just got word here that Downtown Chiropractic has moved into their new location, the new 650 Center building,” Derek reported, and he noted ongoing street and infrastructure work in the district and progress toward development opportunities.

Derek also attended the Greater MSP Sustainable Aviation Fuel workshop in Minneapolis on May 21 and said the session provided useful industry contacts and updates, including conversations with DG Fuels leadership. “We had DG Fuels chairman Michael Darcy in attendance. We had a great opportunity to connect with him and just get the latest on their project and how Moorhead can be ready to serve their needs here in the future,” Derek said.

Staff reminded the board of a community placemaking event, Sunset on the Riverfront, scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at the American Crystal Sugars parking lot. Derek said parking and overflow arrangements will be available and staff expect community conversations about placemaking and downtown evolution to accompany the event.

Derek reported the EDA and local groups joined a Chamber media appearance to discuss Moorhead; he encouraged members to view the recording. No formal board action was taken on these information items.
