Board approves facilities projects; adds fence at Southern Wayne, selects Pinnacle for Rosewood addition

The Wayne County Board of Education approved multiple facilities items at its Aug. 4 meeting, including an expanded fence project at Southern Wayne High School, additional renovation funding for the Rosewood High track, support services purchase orders and memoranda of understanding with local law enforcement, and it selected an architect for the Rosewood Elementary classroom addition.
Facilities committee chair presented committee recommendations to use capital funds to extend fencing at Southern Wayne High School westward toward U.S. 117, adding roughly 500 feet of fence and including gates in the specifications. Staff said informal bids previously received did not include that additional length and that the procurement process would be clarified to ensure all vendors bid to the same specifications; staff planned to re‑bid or clarify the informal process so vendors price the updated scope consistently.
The board also heard a facilities update that included Rosewood High Track additional renovation costs and a request for qualifications for the Rosewood Elementary addition project. At a separate presentations session held the previous Thursday, three architect firms gave 30‑minute presentations; the board voted to select Pinnacle Architect to design the Rosewood Elementary craft classroom addition. The vote to select Pinnacle passed with one dissenting vote.
The board approved the facilities items that came from committee with one combined motion; one item (an amendment to a Barnhill contract) was to be passed pending legal review. Members asked staff to follow up on a small parcel north of Charles B. Acuff and on clarifying bid specifications for the Southern Wayne fence project. The RFQ and architect selection process for Rosewood Elementary was described as complete, with one firm withdrawing before presentations.
Board members were told that additional details and final contracts would be sent for legal review where required before work begins.
