The Finance Committee recommended that the City Council accept bids to purchase midsize pickup trucks and midsize/full-size SUVs to support Cheyenne Fire Rescue and other city departments. Committee members voted to forward two separate bid awards: $144,614 for two Ford Ranger midsize trucks (Cheyenne Fire Rescue) and $274,676 for a mix of midsize and full-size SUVs for Compliance, Community Recreation and Events, and Cheyenne Fire Rescue, for a combined total of $419,290.
TJ Bartlebort, purchasing manager, said the vehicle awards are additional quantities drawn from previously awarded bids where the vendor agreed to hold pricing. Battalion Chief Neil Durany of Cheyenne Fire and Rescue explained the midsize trucks will replace aging vehicles used by the community risk reduction/prevention teams and carry substantial inspection and training equipment; staff said smaller SUVs were considered but did not provide sufficient cargo capacity for tools and props used in prevention and community training programs.
Council members asked about lead times; purchasing staff said lead time for the SUV builds was approximately 180 days. Funding sources cited in the discussion included public safety infrastructure fees, 1% optional sales tax funds (2023–2026), and one-time state distribution funds. There was no public comment; motions to accept the bids were moved, seconded, and the committee voted by voice to forward the recommendations to the City Council.
