Committee approves design contract for High Plains Arboretum greenhouse renovation

The Finance Committee recommended that the City Council approve a professional services agreement with TDSI (The Design Studio, Inc.) for the design and bid-phase work to renovate the High Plains Arboretum greenhouse.
Jason Sanchez, Community Recreation and Events, said the project aligns with an existing memorandum of understanding between the city and the state for arboretum improvements and that the funding is one-time state funds. Randy Byers of TDSI said the greenhouse is in “pretty dire shape” with broken glass and extensive renovation needs. Sanchez and Byers told the committee the available state funding should be sufficient to complete the greenhouse work and additional renovations of related structures such as the Louth House and Head House.
Committee members asked about timing. Staff said there are two critical dates: design and bidding this calendar year, and physical construction in the following year; actual construction timing depends on the design and state funding schedule. There was no public comment. A committee member moved and seconded approval of an amount not to exceed $154,243 for the TDSI contract; the committee voted by voice to forward the recommendation to council.
