BMZA clears backlog: board approves dismissal of cases with no applicant activity older than one year

At the Aug. 5 general meeting the BMZA board approved staff recommendation to dismiss a list of applications that had no activity for at least a year; applicants may reapply.
The Baltimore Municipal Zoning Appeals board voted at its Aug. 5 general meeting to dismiss a group of cases in which applicants had not been in contact or had not completed required filing steps for at least a year. Staff presented a list of cases dating back to 2022 and recommended dismissal so files could be closed and applicants could reapply if they wished to pursue their projects.
Executive Director Becky Witt told the board the applications spanned failures to pay application fees, incomplete submissions, missing site plans and statements of justification, or repeated postponements and failure to post. "Because we haven't heard from these applicants in over a year, the staff is asking that these be dismissed and people can reapply if they want to move forward with their project," she said.
A board member moved to approve the staff recommendation and the motion was seconded; the board voiced approval and the chair announced the dismissal, clearing the general-meeting docket for the afternoon zoning appeals. The dismissals are administrative and do not prevent applicants from filing new applications; staff will update records and publish the list of dismissed cases.
