Town Council pauses community-center nonprofit fee schedule until Sept. 9

The Town Council voted 6-1 at a special meeting to temporarily pause the newly enacted nonprofit pricing structure for the community center, applying the suspension to reservations made between now and Sept. 9. Mayor Bridal presided over the vote.

Rachel, a town staff member, told the council the item was placed on the agenda at the mayor’s direction after feedback from “local nonprofit organizations and community members regarding the community center fee schedule.” She said, "it would essentially suspend it through September 9, and it would only apply to reservations taking place between now and that date." Rachel also said, "There will be no staff presentation or additional data shared this evening. A full review and discussion of the nonprofit pricing policy is scheduled for September 9 as a work study session."

Council members debated the proper motion to vote on before taking the roll call. When the council voted, Vice Mayor Skilcorn cast the lone no; Council Member Earl, Council Member McMahon, Council Member Calabianakis, Council Member Watts, Council Member Larrabee and Mayor Bridal voted yes. The motion passed 6-1. The council did not adopt any other changes to the fee schedule during the meeting.

The pause applies only to the nonprofit pricing structure previously directed by the council and only to reservations occurring between the meeting date and Sept. 9. The staff statement emphasized the pause is temporary and aimed at allowing time for council and staff to evaluate the policy, consider public input and prepare for the scheduled work-study discussion.

Next steps identified in the meeting: the full review and public discussion of the nonprofit pricing policy at the Sept. 9 work study session; no immediate data or staff presentation was provided at the special meeting. The council adjourned after the vote.
