Council rezones vacant lot near bank to highway-commercial at request of First Bank

The Atoka City Council approved rezoning the south half of Lot 5, Block 60 (near Seventh and California) from R-1 single-family residential to C-2 highway commercial after a brief presentation from the applicant and a Planning and Zoning recommendation in favor.
Calvin, identified in the packet as a location manager for First Bank, told the council the change was housekeeping: the bank has owned the lot for more than a decade and there is no immediate building plan. “It is just that is the lot that we've owned for 10 plus years, and it's just never been rezoned to match,” he said.
Councilmembers asked whether there were any protests and were told none were filed. The motion to approve passed by roll call; council members voting yes included Miss Pogue, Miss McGee, Mister Sherrill and Mister Cathy. The council did not place conditions on the rezoning or note any pending site plan.
