Redmond to renew 10‑year commitment to Eastrail partnership; ribbon cutting set for Sept. 12

Parks Director Loreen Hamilton and Parks Planning Manager Lindsay Falkenberg told the committee the city is prepared to renew a 10‑year memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Eastrail Partners, a nonprofit that coordinates community engagement, business activation and fundraising for the regional Eastrail vision. Staff asked that the MOA be placed on the Sept. 2 consent agenda.
Falkenberg described the Eastrail as an envisioned 42‑mile regional trail that links Renton to the Snohomish County line and beyond; jurisdictions that participate include Redmond, Bellevue, Woodinville, Renton, Kirkland and King County. Falkenberg said Redmond owns 3.9 miles of the Eastrail — the Redmond Central Connector — and was the first jurisdiction to complete its segment. She said about one‑third of Eastrail Partners’ budget comes from participating jurisdictions and that the nonprofit supports the trail through advocacy, events and community engagement.
Council Vice President Forsyth, who the staff noted serves as co‑chair of the King County Regional Advisory Council (RAC) for the Eastrail, praised the project as a county‑spanning trail. Council President Kritzer thanked Forsyth for leadership and asked about a ribbon cutting date; staff confirmed a Sept. 12, 10 a.m. event and said a save‑the‑date would be distributed.
No council member objected to placing the MOA on the Sept. 2 consent agenda.
The MOA renewal would continue Redmond’s partnership with the Eastrail nonprofit and with other jurisdictions that coordinate trail development and activation. Staff said the draft MOA had been reviewed by city legal counsel and is consistent with the prior MOA signed in 2013.
