Commissioners approve interlocal agreement allowing city bus service in White County

White County commissioners approved an interlocal cooperation agreement on Aug. 4 granting permission for the Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation (CityBus) to operate in portions of White County.
Doug (staff) explained the legal framework for the agreement, saying, "the way the statute set up for city bus to do business in another county, there has to be, an interlocal agreement to that effect between the 2 counties," and that the city of Lafayette retains primary oversight of CityBus operations. The board voted to approve the interlocal agreement by motion and voice vote.
The approval authorizes the county's signature on the interlocal agreement and does not itself alter CityBus routes or operational oversight, which remain subject to the terms of the interlocal agreement and any applicable city oversight and state statutes.
