Planning Board Hears Application From Educational Bus Transportation for 1,456-Square-Foot Dispatch Office Addition

The Town of Babylon Planning Board on Aug. 4 held a public hearing on job 22-23A, an application from Educational Bus Transportation Inc. to construct a 1,456-square-foot addition to a dispatch office that was part of a previously approved site plan.
Chris Tartaglia, identified on the record as the applicant’s engineer from High Point Engineering, described the application as a straightforward expansion to accommodate staff and to relocate a training room that had previously been off-site. “We are actually doubling the size of this already relatively small building,” Tartaglia said, and added the expansion was requested after the company lost a nearby lease and needed to bring additional employees into the facility.
Tartaglia told the board the parcel is more than five acres; the addition will primarily house a driver training room of roughly 1,000 square feet, with a minor increase in on-site staff (about two to three additional dispatchers). He said the proposal would remove five bus stalls from the site’s circulation, but that the daily training sessions are attended by existing drivers after their shifts and therefore the net effect on employee parking should be minimal.
He said the applicant has received health department comments and expects approval shortly and that the team will respond to any further comments from engineering or the fire marshal. “No. None whatsoever. It’s a very short list of conditions, and we’re in agreement with all of them,” Tartaglia said in response to the planning commissioner’s memo dated July 31, 2025.
No members of the public spoke. The planning board closed the public hearing and reserved decision to allow staff to review outstanding items and agency comments. The motion to close and reserve decision was recorded “Motion by Dan; Second by Frank” and the chair noted the affirmative vote. Less critical details: the applicant previously completed the on-site canopy and tank work during construction and the engineering team said there are no significant changes to stormwater or circulation beyond the loss of five bus stalls; final approvals remain contingent on responding to health department, engineering and fire marshal comments.
