Board approves final change order for 2024 Graham Road roundabouts, project under original contract price

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved the final change order for the 2024 Graham Road roundabouts project on Aug. 4, reducing the contract and authorizing final payment to the contractor. City Engineer Matt McElroy told the board the balancing change order amounted to $210,003.70 and reflected an overall contract difference of approximately minus 6.82 percent, moving the contract from $2,939,700 to $2,738,542.30. McElroy attributed the underrun largely to reduced need for certain contingency items such as culvert undercutting and said Crossroad Engineers' inspection helped identify savings in the field. Board members noted the project was a partnership with the county and the town of Whiteland and that both partners would receive refunds from the underrun. The board discussed rough refund figures during the meeting: at one point an estimate of about $80,500 to the county and about $92,940 to Whiteland was cited. A board member moved to approve and execute Change Order No. 3 (final) for the project; the motion carried with the board voting in favor.
