Sumner County commissioners on Aug. 4 agreed to remove from the General Operations agenda discussion of buying a replacement trailer for a temporarily housed EMS crew after learning Millersville is moving forward on architect selection to reconfigure two EMS stations. Commissioners said the county has spent “almost $50,000” to rent a large trailer used as temporary station space for more than a year and questioned why the county had rented a high-end model rather than a smaller, less-expensive unit. One commissioner said a comparable purchase could be roughly in the $40,000 range, while staff noted the currently rented unit was purchased earlier for about $65,000 (figures stated in the meeting). Committee members agreed Millersville’s ongoing architect and code work may resolve the need, and that if the rental continues to be costly the county could revisit a purchase. Millersville officials told the committee they expect to accept an architect’s proposal for the station work shortly and that station renovations (including code upgrades) are expected to move ahead. Committee members asked staff to monitor rental costs and said they preferred removing the item from old business while Millersville completes its internal procurement steps; they also asked for a future update if rental costs continue to rise or if Millersville’s schedule slips.
