Memorial Field redesign progress; parking shortfall and access remain unresolved

Higgins noted that the steep grassy area at Memorial Field is not suitable for low-cost parking without substantial grading and expense.
Committee members discussed egress and transit lanes that the redesign would improve, but concerns remain about how to meet recommended parking capacity for a facility with multiple fields. Miss Higgins said the committee will consult the city about formal agreements that would permit the district to rely on state hospital parking at certain times and will ask the city how the process works.
The committee will not vote immediately; Higgins said the city has included design funding in its budget and that the board will need to decide in October whether to fund full design work when the district finalizes its budget. No formal board action was taken on Memorial Field at the Aug. 4 meeting.
