The board’s attorneys recommended participation so the county can receive any distribution; if the county were to opt out, staff said it would not receive funds from these settlements.
The first settlement discussed involved Purdue‑related claims, with a $6.5 billion national settlement referenced in staff remarks; the second involved a multi‑defendant agreement with a smaller total. The board adopted resolutions authorizing the county’s participation in the settlements and to accept any resulting distributions according to the settlement terms.
