After staff told the board that Carolina Structural Systems’ announcement reduced the county’s available industrial inventory to a single 50‑acre site, the Greensville County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 4 to authorize an application to the Virginia Tobacco Commission for $25,000 to fund a characterization study of five candidate sites. Staff said the county plans to seek a matching $25,000 from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership so the study can proceed without using county funds.
Staff described the characterization study as an effort to identify where utilities must be extended, what infrastructure improvements a site would require, and what would make candidate sites marketable to prospective industrial tenants. The study would evaluate utility locations, access, and other constraints that can inform future economic development work.
The board approved the resolution authorizing staff to apply for the Tobacco Commission grant and the staff noted intent to pursue matching funds from state economic development partners.
